Spring Break 2011

Spring break this year started with a bang--the bang of my head into concrete while I attempted (for the first time) to roller blade on a half pipe. I wish I could say I was attempting some cool trick, like a back flip, but in reality I was just trying to turn around on the pipe. Lame. In any case, Noah was so proud of me.
Two days after cracking my head open, a picture of Oliver kicking me in the face made the front cover of the local newspaper. I had taken the kids to open gym at a gymnastics center and a news reporter and photographer were there writing a story about what to do during spring break.
The following day, I took the kids to Nashville, Indiana (15 minutes away) where they got to mine for gemstones. It was a big hit all around and totally worth the $15 I spent on two bags of dirt.
Thursday, we headed an hour southeast to a little town called Madison. We booked a room at Hillside Inn, where Shirley McLaine, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra stayed while filming a movie (call us snobs, but we only stay in hotels that have hosted famous people).
our view:
The next morning we played around the town. Oh, did I mention we were with Henry and Ari (and their parents)? This week could not have been better!
Then it was off to Squire Boone Cavern
are you totally flipping out? It was seriously awesome!
this is the oldest formation in the cave--it's over a million years old.
There was even a waterfall IN the cave, which I'm told is pretty rare.
Friday night, we partied on at our house. Gabby got to have a sleep over at the neighbor's house, and Alex and Oliver both got to sleep on a dog house...but more on that in another post.

  1. Hooray! I love the pictures. My favorite is Alex's surprised look with him, Gabby and Oliver where you are writing about the celebrity hotel.

  2. Ouch! That looks like it hurt! That's mostly why I avoid all strenuous physical activity...I'm so clumsy I risk life and limb every time I try :P

Looks like you guys were busy, busy during spring break! You always plan the funnest stuff :)
