Alex and Gabby

I know some day I'll forget these small moments that I currently take for granted, which is why I'm determined to blog about them.

Here are some small glimpses:

Alex is such an imaginative child. We just got back from playing at the park where he brought along his invisible light saber--complete with sound effects (he rarely leaves the house without it). If a girl got in his way (he didn't seem to have a problem with boys), he'd pull it out and wave it around in front of her, then he'd tuck it neatly back into the side of his shorts when his business was complete.

side note: Alex has been thoroughly disappointed with every toy light saber that Noah and I have purchased and keeps asking for the one that "lights out" (a real one). He's not satisfied at all with our answer that you have to be a Jedi to own a real one and we don't have the heart to tell him that real ones don't actually exist. So in the mean time, Alex would rather just use his pretend light saber than his toy.

In the picture below, Alex is holding the light saber and making the appropriate sound effects.

Yesterday, Alex and Gabby made a fort in my front room--something I remember doing time and time again with Adrea when we were little. And even though there was a part of me that was screaming as they were disassembling my couches and making a mess in the main living area (two cardinal rules broken), I didn't want to stop them. I let the "house" (Alex got mad when I called it a fort) stay up all day and couldn't resist snapping this shot of Alex when he fell asleep in it.

Gabby tries to play cool most of the time. For example: when I pick her up from school, she'll say quite annoyed, "Uhh, I'm so tired of everyone telling me how pretty my eyes are!"

She loves bird watching and gets really excited when red cardinals eat the bird seed we have hanging in a tree. When we eat dinner together, Gabby makes sure the blinds are open so we can all enjoy the pretty mid-west birds.

Gabby is currently in the front room throwing a stuffed animal in the air and making Oliver laugh hysterically so I don't need to tell you what a fantastic sister she is to her brothers.

Sad note: Gabby skinned her elbow for the first time ever yesterday when she went full speed down a hill on her scooter, which leads me to another tidbit about Gabby, she is fearless).

  2. Thank you so much for letting us in on everyday life at your house. We still miss you, but your skillful blogging makes it so much easier. I strongly agree with your Mom. I think I mentioned the "blurry" years - the busy, busy fun years when all the children were with me and collapsing in exhausted sleep, sorrowfully, took precedence over keeping a journal. You are doing a wonderful job!
